I'm not a slave to a god, that doesn't exist.
I'm not a slave to a world that doesn't give a shit.

- Marilyn Manson

These words actually do make some sense, but there's always the everlasting question of does god exist. Can you believe in something you haven't got proof for?
It's not only about religion, there are examples in science as well. There are always some who are trying to prove quantum mechanics wrong. We simply choose to believe whatever theories seam reasonable and give the best fit of reality..

I've been meaning to post this photo, it was taken in Jalta, Krim (UKR), in june, and I just couldn't resist sitting on that guy's shoulders..

I doubt I will find a taller guy to carry me around on his shoulders ;)
I had other photos showing his full size, but it was dark outside so you can't see much on them, so unfortunately this one is the best I have..

What's wrong with Brits today ???

Seriously, what's the point in living a long life if you take all the fun out of it ?!?

Am I trying to poison my cat ?!?

I'm sure that this was the thought going through Bandito's mind when I threw the soap soaked dishwashing-sponge into his food as he was eating and I was doing the dishes. The sponge kinda landed on the side of his head and from there fell into the water bowl. Don't worry, I was a good 'mama' and changed the water.

This is the highlight of my week, which otherwise was filled with a lot of waiting during which I tried to read a bit of Solid State Physics, not a very appealing matter when your mind wants to do something more entertaining..

Hope your days are filled with more interesting things than mine just now

Newsflash, I'm still in Stockholm. I was supposed to go back to Iceland last Monday, but no, something wanted to keep me here. I ended up in the hospital late Sunday evening and wasn't let out till yesterday. I decided since the workweek would be finished by the way I got home anyway, I might as well stay here during the better half of the weekend. In other words I'm returning to the 'Ice' Sunday afternoon.
Probably the last chance of decent warmth and sun for me this year.
I of course had to book a new ticket home, but I wasn't smart enough to cut my losses and get the return flight in January, so I will need to pay a rebooking fee. I blame everything on not thinking straight after the hospital stay =P

Crawling back into bed now :)

I'm leaving to Stockholm tomorrow morning so I think it's only appropriate to flash back on my last trip to Stockholm. On the way to young women were sitting next to me, one of them unfortunate enough to be stuck to a wheelchair, but she seemed so happy to be alive anyway, she had MS and was recovering from a bad period. She mentioned she had a very good partner, so I guess he was a great support to her. As I understood it she was visiting Sweden to check out some puppies. There was probably another reason as well, but the puppies were at least part of it.
Now finally to my point. When we had just landed she asked how you say 'I'm sorry' in Swedish. When she heard it was 'Förlåt' she replied, that is sounded just like 'forljót' in Icelandic which literally means 'mud-ulgy', I had never thought of that before, it does indeed sound a bit familiar.
We do on the other hand have a saying 'Ég biðst forláts', which means 'I beg your pardon' and there I am certain we have the same source as the Swedish word. This saying is normally not used is daily language, more appropriate if you are really offended. Normally we use the word 'fyrirgefðu' which if broken to pieces means exactly 'forgive' (for = fyrir, give = gefa/gefðu).

That's all on the language talk today.

I look so much forward to arriving in Stockholm, my other home, tomorrow :)

Is Pluto a planet or not ?

Scientists just can't seem to agree on the matter.

I have been meaning for some time to post a couple of words very similar in Icelandic and Swedish and point out the differences. Some of these can be quite a bit confusing and we Icelandics tend to mix up sometimes.

Here is a short list, English translation follows in paranthesis.

hemsk (se, horrible) != heimskur (is, stupid)
rak (se, straight) != rakur (is, moist)
kåt(se, horny) != kátur (is, happy) - even though with one often follows the other ;)
hämta (se, fetch) != heimta (is, demand)
samt (se, and) != samt (is, anyway or still as in 'but still')
skyr (se, avoid) != skyr (is, milk product bit similar to yoghurt)
skata (se, magpie - a bird) != skata (is, skate - a fish) - how did you Swedes think of using the old norse word for this fish for a bird ??
gös (se, pike-perch) != gæs (is, goose) - has caused problems in restaurants :-þ
rum (se, room) != rúm (is, bed)
säng (se, bed) != sæng (is, cover)

Last I'd like to mention that the Icelandic female names Ragga and Kolla are not so good to have when in Sweden :)

The list is by no means complete, but that's all for now :)
